Local businesses Union State Bank and Stroup Insurance have provided the SMC Foundation with $3,000 in match funds to kick off Giving Hearts Day. Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour fundraising event for charities in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. As the longest-running giving day in the country, GHD has helped charities raise more than $112 million since its founding.

SMC Rehab Offers Blood Flow Restriction Therapy

SMC Rehab offers an innovative therapy that helps with the development of muscle strength for a variety of patients. Steve Ziegler, PT, DPT, is certified to offer Blood Flow Restriction Therapy which is often used on patients prior to or following surgery in their extremities. Research has proven that BFRT can minimize loss of muscle mass, decrease bone healing time, and allow patients to improve muscle size and strength. BFRT is also a great option for patients with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteopenia, or osteoporosis.

New Therapy Offered for Patients with Parkinson Disease

People living with Parkinson Disease or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have trouble getting around, getting dressed, and with other daily activities. A new therapy offered at SMC can help patients with PD use their body more normally and slow symptom progression.
