Molly Nelson Named DAISY Award Honoree

Molly Nelson, RN, has been recognized as Sakakawea Medical Center's most recent DAISY Award recipient. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an award that recognizes nurses for the amazing efforts they perform every day. Nurses are nominated for this award by patients, their families, or coworkers.

Molly was nominated by a patient who stated, “This nurse provided excellent patient care to me while I was going through chemo for 4 months. I did my treatments in Bismarck, but I would come into Sakakawea Medical Center for IV fluids and blood transfusions. This nurse worked very close with Dr. Grey’s office. She would make sure I would get my prescriptions as needed. She was always so friendly and compassionate when I would call to schedule a time to come in. It was so nice to work with the same person and this nurse is top notch in everything she does. Thank you, Sakakawea Medical Center, for keeping me alive during this very challenging time.”

We’d also like to recognize our other outstanding nominees: Destiny Chapman, RN; Katie Jewell, RN; Yvonne Nodland, RN; and Natalie Yeager, RN.

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died in late 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients' families.

SMC nurses work to provide skillful and compassionate care each day. Patients, visitors, families, nurses, physicians, and employees may nominate a deserving nurse by completing a nomination form here.
