NDHA members participated in a telephone town hall hosted by AARP North Dakota on July 16 about the CARE Act, passed during the 2019 North Dakota legislative session, which addressed the role of family caregivers in the hospital discharge process. The event featured hospital and healthcare experts Molly Nelson, RN and Nursing Care Coordinator, Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen; Dr. Laurie Signorelli, interim leader of Case Management, CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck; and Nikki Willett, Social Services Manager, Sanford Health, Bismarck, who discussed how the new law will provide clarity to caregivers to help them prepare for a loved one’s discharge from the hospital. Topics of discussion included questions that family members should ask, what to expect at discharge, who you should get in touch with if you encounter problems, and the importance of the collaboration between family members and the hospital. A video recording of the discussion is available at: CARE Act Telephone Townhall.
