Kalynn West, RN, has been recognized as Sakakawea Medical Center's most recent DAISY Award recipient. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an award that recognizes nurses for the amazing efforts they perform every day. Nurses are nominated for this award by patients, their families, or coworkers.
Kalynn was nominated by a patient's family member who stated: “this nurse was extremely gentle, kind, and compassionate. She was very patient and took her time even though it was past the end of her shift. She included my mother in all conversations and made sure I understood the plan of care for the injury. She made us feel more at ease, and at no time did she seem to be rushed or annoyed. She was absolutely phenomenal.”
Other SMC nurses who were recognized as nominees were Destiny Chapman, RN and Kayla Carter, RN.
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died in late 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients' families.
SMC nurses work to provide skillful and compassionate care each day. Patients, visitors, families, nurses, physicians, and employees may nominate a deserving nurse by completing a nomination form here.
